Iowa Economic Development Authority has awarded the City of Lamont a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in amount not to exceed $5,040 to work with local volunteers and local restaurants to establish a meal service for vulnerable residents. Due to the COVID-19, many residents have self-quarantined especially older adults (61-80) and elderly adults (81+). The Starmont Backpack and Supplies project is now underway. The Backpack project is a community outreach program being led by the churches of Arlington, Lamont, and Strawberry Point, The goal is to help needy families get their children ready for school by providing the necessary school supplies. Please put all your Waste Management garbage and recycling carts curbside on Tuesday night, June 23rd and as they pick up garbage and recycling on June 24th, a truck and trailer will follow behind and pick up Waste Management carts. Kluesner Sanitation of Farley, Iowa will drop off a 65-gallon cart for garbage and 65-gallon cart for recycling at each residence that day. Lamont Days will be July 31st and August 1st, 2020. The theme this year is Board Games! The Steak Fry will be on Friday night, July 31st with the 5K Cancer Run/Walk and Parade on Saturday.
