City of Lamont participated in the 2022 Iowa Healthiest State Initiative Walk on Wednesday, October 5th.

City of Lamont participated in the Healthiest State 12th Annual Walk on Wednesday, October 5, 2022. There were 25 registered walkers and 10 of those walkers met at City Hall at 5:00 pm on October 5th for the 30-minute Community Walk.

The League of Cities and the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative partnered for the “Cities Walk Challenge”.  The City of Breda (population 500) has been named the first-ever Iowa League of Cities Walking Challenge winner. According to Chase Langos, a marketing communications strategist with the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative, the Carroll County Community took the top spot by having the highest percentage of its residents register to participate in the statewide walk this week.  That prize is $1,000 from the Healthiest State Initiative, which will be used to fund a yet-to-be-determined project in the community that will help residents get up and get active.

The Iowa Healthiest State Initiative was founded over a decade ago to improve Iowans’ overall wellness. Langos says the program waned somewhat during the pandemic, but they hope to get back on track with 2022’s walk. The Iowa Healthiest State Initiative hosts events and programs year-round.
