“If I Was Mayor of Lamont” Contest
“If I Was Mayor of Lamont” Contest Essays are due March 2nd
In honor of our country’s 250th anniversary and our town’s 173rd anniversary, we are planning a few fun activities throughout this year. To start, we are offering a “If I Was Mayor of Lamont” contest which is open to all kids to write an essay on what they would do if they were mayor. We are dividing it into two age groups youth up to 6th grade, and an older category, 7th grade up to 12th grade. The guidelines are as follows:
- Must have a Lamont address, kids can participate out of town, but their address must be Lamont
- Essay can be a word document or written, if written we must be able to read it
- No page limit or maximum page number, we are looking for quality
- We encourage you to write about what you would like to see in your community, what qualities you feel make a good mayor, what you would do if you were mayor, do you see yourself ever running for public office, and anything else you feel pertains to being the mayor and improving our community
- We need your age, name, and contact information included
- It must be turned in by the end of the day March 2nd
When you have your essay finished, please drop it off at city hall, in the water bill payment box outside city hall, at the library, or emailed to me at mjc@iowatelecom.net
Two winners will be selected, one from each age group. Each winner will receive a gift certificate from one of our local businesses, picked by the winners, and each winner will be invited to attend the March city council meeting and sit by me at the head of the table and assist me in leading the council meeting.
Remember, our library has computers so feel free to stop in the library to work on your essay and meet our new library director Sarah. If we have a good number of kids participate, we will do this again. Our youth are our future and we want them involved. Good luck everyone! Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks for participating! Your Mayor, Mike Cook
